If you’re here early, why not start your day at the Queens Zoo? The zoo offers an easy opportunity to see some animals not usually present in the city – including bald eagles and Andean bears – while also getting a chance to see domestic animals like goats, cows, pigs, and sheep. You can even peek at Pudu… a species of deer that stand just a foot tall!
And don’t forget to check out the sea lion feedings. Three times a day, zookeepers invite visitors to learn more about these master swimmers who are laughably uncoordinated on land.
Next door, in the summer months, you can visit a free-entry amusement park. In fact, it’s the only amusement park in Queens! With kid-friendly rides like the historical Flushing Meadows Carousel from the 1964-1965 World’s Fair. Fantasy Forest Amusement Park has games similar to those you might find on the Boardwalk or a carnival and lots of kid-friendly rides. You can let the kids burn off a little steam or ride all afternoon with an all-day all you care to ride armband.
In the colder months, consider a visit to the New York Hall of Science. NYSCI offers community-based activities and an easy introduction to science all around us. In the winter, you might even be able to strap on your ice skates while you discover all the questions and some of the answers about the world around you.
Feeling exhausted after all the playing, learning, and walking? Then it’s definitely time to head to the marina and grab your seat on the Skyline Princess. Relax inside the climate-controlled cabin or enjoy the sun and wind in your face while you stand on deck for your harbor cruise.
