We here in the northeast managed to get through the summer with hot days early on, which led to what feels like the start of an early fall here. You might even be missing some of the heat as the mornings are getting a bit chilly. That said, we still have plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors from now through the rest of fall.
A Skyline Cruise Is A Great Leaf-Peeping Opportunity
One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors in the fall is to take a trip to a scenic spot to witness the brilliant colors of fall foliage. Many people think you have to go up to the Catskills or even as far up as northern New Hampshire to be a true leaf-peeper, but you can enjoy all that beauty right here aboard the Skyline Princess.
If you’re looking for a cruise to enjoy the fall foliage outside of the New York Harbor, then our Long Island Lighthouse Sightseeing Cruise is for you. These cruises also depart from the World’s Fair Marina and go out during the daytime, so you can enjoy lunch prepared by our onboard chef as you take in the view of the Gold Coast mansions, lighthouses, and the gorgeous greenery that’s changing color for the fall.
Can You See Fall Foliage from a Cruise Ship?
You can absolutely see the fall foliage from aboard the Skyline Princess. We encourage you to use binoculars or the zoom on your cellphone if you’d like to see the leaves more up close, but part of the magic of seeing the fall foliage is seeing it from some distance to truly take in the wide range of colors and how they paint the landscape of New York. While the New York Harbor is known more for the skyscrapers you see piercing the skyline, there is plenty of gorgeous greenery you can see change with the fall in places like Battery Park, Randall’s Island, Four Freedoms Park, Gracie Mansion, and so much more!
What Month Is Best for a Fall Foliage Cruise?
The best month to view the fall foliage from the Skyline Princess is October, specifically late October. That’s not the case for the rest of New York, however. The further up north you are, the later in the fall the impact of fall foliage is felt. And that’s to see the peak of it!
Going on a cruise to view the fall foliage closer to mid-October would work well, too. That said, you won’t have as much foliage to look at if you wait beyond early November. If you do, you may literally miss the boat to fall foliage!
