Autumn is here and for many people, it’s the ideal time for outings and excursions. And that also means foliage. The tri-state area has some of the most colorful fall foliage you can find. If you live in the region, you know it’s worth the trip. If you’re looking for unique and spectacular views of fall foliage, where you can take photos that will be keepsakes forever, you’ll find it with Skyline Cruises. And there’s no better place to do it than on the Long Island Sound.
Make Skyline Your Fall Excursion Headquarters
Skyline Cruises is in its 25th season of providing thrills and spectacular sights. We offer popular public dinner cruises with gourmet food and views of iconic New York City locations including the Empire State Building, United Nations, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. Or take a public brunch cruise from our home port at the World’s Fair Marina in Flushing, Queens and see the Manhattan skyline and foliage too. “The cityscape is trim with brownish-reddish foliage, making for a once-in-a-lifetime view,” at this time of year, according to the “I Love NY” website. We also offer full ship charters which can give you spectacular views of Long Island Sound.
What You’ll See on the Sound
When you book a full ship charter aboard our 3-deck luxury yacht, the Skyline Princess, for a Long Island Sound Cruise, you can leave from our home port or other ports on Long Island, or in Connecticut. Our full ship charters also leave from Manhattan, New Jersey, and Westchester.
You’ll see historic lighthouses, gold coast mansions, and other unique sights. In New York, the leaves usually start changing colors in early October, according to Trip Savvy. It may take an additional week or two to fully turn and the change may begin later a little farther south, so the best time to see foliage is likely in late October and early November. For the latest information, check the New York Fall Foliage Report. Connecticut also gives up to date information on foliage. Peak foliage season on the Connecticut shoreline is at the end of October to early November.
There’s beauty in every direction on Long Island Sound. There are quaint lighthouses such as Sands Points, Execution Rocks, and Stepping Stones Lighthouse, private islands which are exclusive getaways for the wealthy and historic mansions too. You’ll see historic places like the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point and Hart Island, which served as an internment camp during the Civil War as well as Fort Totten which was once a Civil War fortress but is now a New York City park located on the north shore of Queens. In the Bronx, you’ll see Fort Schuyler another 19th Century fort, which is the current home of SUNY Maritime Academy.
